Tools and manufacturing resources put limitations on design and can feel restrictive, but can also work as an inspiration. For this project only having a rail saw and a cordless drill rendered curves and complex joints impossible. Therefore I decided to explore dynamic shapes and compositions that could be created by straight lines, as well as joining methods that are honest to the material and the tools available. As such, the stool became a record of the time and place it was created in, reflecting the limitations and inspiration of it’s surroundings.

Created during Artist Residency at Villa Lena, Italy.

2019.
